DATE RAPE

Date rape or drug rape is when drugs are given without your knowledge, with the aim of reducing your inhibitions or consciousness to a level where a sexual assault can take place.

The drugs that are used (gamma-hydroxybutyrate, or flunitrazepam) can be added to your drink when you are in a pub, club or even a party. You may have heard them called Rohypnol, GHB, ActiveSeX, Roofies, Ruffles, Roche,R-2, Rib and Rope.

In alcohol they are odourless, colourless and tasteless. They can cause sedation and euphoria as quickly as 10 minutes after ingestion.

IF YOUR DRINK IS SPIKED

The effects are similar to being drunk, except they occur more quickly.
Tell a friend, ask them to get you home and to stay with you.
If you are alone then speak to the manager of the club or pub. Ask them to contact a friend to come and collect you. Never leave the club with a stranger.
Both men and women can have their drinks spiked.

IF YOU ARE ASSAULTED

Remember these drugs can cause memory loss
Consider contacting the Police
Contact your Doctor or a Nurse to consider emergency contraception, and screening for sexually transmitted infections, and emotional support.

BE SMART

Don’t share or swap drinks with anyone.
Look out for each other in a group.
Don’t leave drinks unattended
Think twice about accepting drinks from someone you don’t know well.
Watch your drink being poured.
