Painful periods

These affect 80% of women at some time. Usually it is not a sign of a serious underlying problem and can be treated with self-help methods

Treatment

Over the counter medication
•    Painkillers e.g. paracetamol and ibuprofen
•    Feminax which contains hyoscine which may help the muscle contractions
•    Hot water bottle
•    Moderate physical exercise

Prescribed medications
