Helpful Information

When you get home

Some diseases picked up overseas are only apparent after you get home.
•    Diarrhoea
•    Feverish illness – malaria
Remember this can be up to a year after your return.
•    If you have been swimming in fresh water lakes and streams in Africa, South America or some parts of the Caribbean, you will need screening for Schistosomiasis.

It is worth a visit to either the practice nurse or doctor for a stool sample and a blood test. A urine test will be able to exclude Schistosomiasis.
