WHAT TO DO DURING OUT OF HOURS

PHARMACISTS are more accessible than Doctors as a first point of contact if you have a cold or sore throat. They can give very helpful advice, and  there are now many medicines that can be purchased over the counter. Pharmacists can prescribe topical antibiotics for certain conditions such as conjunctivitis and skin infections.

URGENT CARE CAMBRIDGESHIRE is a cooperative service for night and weekend work. It is manned by local GPs and nurses. You will receive advice/treatment either on the telephone or at Chesterton Medical Centre.

Please remember that out-of–hours calls should be for emergencies that cannot wait until the following day.

When you telephone your details will be taken by an answering service, you will then be telephoned back by a doctor. It is very helpful for the doctor to speak to the person requiring help, rather than through a third party. PLEASE ENSURE YOUR MOBILE PHONE IS SWITCHED ON AND IT'S ANSWERPHONE IS SWITCHED OFF!

Health information and advice is also available 24hours a day from NHS Direct on 0845 4647
