Miscellaneous including blood and organ donation
Medic alert
If you have either a chronic medical condition or a life threatening allergy have you thought about wearing a medic alert in case of emergency?
Organ donation
There is an annual shortfall of 4000 between the number of organs donated and the number of people waiting for a transplant. Have you considered joining the organ donor register and giving the gift of your organ in the event of your death? Becoming a donor is something you may never have thought about, but please give some thought to joining the register, and perhaps discuss it with your parents. All major religions support the principles of organ transplantation. Black and Asian people are three times as likely to develop illnesses like diabetes. Donated organs need to be genetically compatible, but there is an acute shortage of donors from these communities. Find out more at www.uktransplant.org.uk
Blood cancers, such as lymphoma are rare but statistically speaking someone in your year is likely to develop this condition. Bone marrow donation could save their life .Visit the website for more information.
