Detecting skin cancer - Keep an eye on your skin
DID YOU KNOW?
Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer. Over 8,000 people develop melanoma each year in the UK.
The warning signs of Malignant Melanoma
The ABCD rule
• Asymmetry
The two halves of your mole do not look the same
• Border
The edges of your mole are irregular, blurred or jagged.
• Colour
The colour of your mole is uneven, with more than one shade.
• Diameter - Your mole is wider than 6mm in diameter (the size of a pencil eraser)
Other signs
• A new growth or sore that won’t heal
• A spot, mole or sore that itches or hurts
• A mole or growth that bleeds, crusts or scabs.
If you notice any of the above then see your doctor without delay
